Sausage Cheddar Biscuits

Looking for a delicious Father’s Day Breakfast? These flaky Sausage Cheddar Biscuits are sure to please any dad in your life!

Not sure about everyone else, but when it comes to my husbands breakfast tastes they could not be more different than mine. While I would love a fancy brunch he’s happiest with plain ol’ sausage, eggs and toast. So these biscuits are the best of both worlds, and still feel like a treat for Fathers Day.

We love to make these Sausage Cheddar Biscuits into a sandwich with a fried egg. We will often make these biscuits for Brinner (breakfast for dinner) a favourite in our house.

  • 1 Pound Ground Pork Sausage
  • 4 Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup Shredded Extra-Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • 2 Green onions thinly sliced
  • 4 Teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons Kosher Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • 3/4 Cup Donia Farms Unsalted Butter frozen
  • 1 1/4 Cups Buttermilk *
  • 3/4 Cup Heavy Whipping Cream
  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat; set aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until browned, making sure to crumble the sausage as it cooks. Drain excess fat; transfer sausage to a paper towel-lined plate and let cool.
  3. In a large bowl, combine sausage, flour, cheese, green onion, baking powder, salt, baking soda and pepper.
  4. Grate butter using the large holes of a box grater. Stir into the flour mixture.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together buttermilk and heavy whipping cream.
  6. Add buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture and stir using a rubber spatula until a soft dough forms. Working on a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Using a sharp knife, cut out 12 squares. Place biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet; place in the freezer for 15 minutes.
  7. Remove biscuits from freezer. Place into oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Serve Warm and Enjoy!
  9. *In a pinch for buttermilk? Put 1 Tbsp and 3/4 tsp of White vinegar into your measuring cup. Then fill your measuring cup up to the 1 1/4 cup mark with Donia Farms Grass Fed Milk, let sit for 5-10 minutes and use in place of buttermilk.
