Breakfast Strata

The Sunday breakfast recipe you didn’t know you needed.

“Stratas are a great way to clean out your fridge and use up leftovers. Use whatever cooked meats you have on hand, vegetables that are starting to go, and that stale loaf of bread in your pantry. Soaked in an egg, milk, and cheese mixture and baked until light and fluffy, it’s a satisfying breakfast.”

Ingredients
  • 4 cups bread cubed
  • 2 cups 2% Donia milk
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups shredded cheese
  • 1 cup cooked meats
  • 1 cup cooked vegetables
  • 2 Tbsp Franks Hot Sauce optional
  • 2 Tsp Kosher Salt
  • 1 Tsp Fresh Cracked Black Pepper
Servings: people
Instructions
  1. Wisk milk, hot sauce, salt and pepper and the eggs together in a large bowl until well combined.
  2. In a separate large bowl, mix the everything together, reserve a handful of extra cheese to bake on top after.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a buttered 9x13 baking dish.
  4. Pour the milk and egg mixture all over. Press down the bread to flatten and cover all of it.
  5. Let the unbaked strata sit for 10 mins (or overnight) before cooking, so the bread can absorb some of the egg and milk mixture.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350F
  7. Cover with foil and bake until the middle is cooked and set, about 25-35 min. You'll know it's set when the center doesn't move too much when gently shaken, and the middle is firm to touch. Top with remaining cheese and broil until nicely browned.
  8. You can top with some lightly dressed Arugula tossed with olive oil & a squeeze of fresh lemon or fresh summer pea tips dressed the same way.
  9. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
