I love to be festive! And it can be easy too! For this recipe you simply use store bought cake mix, our easy home made butter cream and fun chocolate shapes make for easy Halloween decorating!

Make cake or cupcakes according to package instructions.
Line a baking tray with parchment and set aside. Melt your chocolate in the microwave or stove top. Be sure to stir frequently to prevent burning. Once chocolate is smooth, mix in 1 tsp of butter.
Add the melted butter to a ziplock or piping bag and snip a VERY small corner with scissors. Pipe out halloween shapes on top of the parchment paper: Witches hats, spider webs, or bats. Place the tray with your halloween shapes in the freezer to set.
TIP: make bat bodies out of the melted chocolate and use Oreo cookies broken in half for the bat wings!
To make the frosting: In the bowl of a stand mixer, add your softened butter and whip until light and fluffy, at least 2 minutes.
Add in half of the icing sugar and beat to incorporate. Next, add in the milk and vanilla extract and whip. Last, add in the remaining rising sugar. Whip the frosting until it is silky smooth and fluffy.
Decorate your cake or cupcakes with the frosting and chocolate shapes. Enjoy!
